NYK’s Mega Container Ship Strikes Tanker!

According to an article published in Maritime Bulletin, a mega container ship struck a Turkish tanker while proceeding to Greece.

What happened?

On September 26, the mega container ship One Blue Jay struck Turkish tanker Gunece while proceeding to container terminal berth in Perama port, Piraeus, Greece on arrival from Singapore via Suez.

Tanker badly damaged

One crew of tanker was injured, hospitalized. According to officials, the tanker with 3200 tons of fuel cargo on board suffered hull crack, situation under control, tanker fenced off with booms.

The tanker was hit starboard, suffering hull breach and reportedly, water ingress in ballast tanks. Tanker developed stb list.

The officials have confirmed that the containership went out of control, couldn’t stop or turn in time, and allided with the berthed tanker.
