One Killed, One Wounded in Cargo Ship Explosion in Sinop

On February 28, one person was killed and another was injured, when a cargo ship exploded in Turkey.

What happened?

A Liberian flagged dry cargo vessel ‘Mümtaz Amca’ was four miles off the Coast of Sinop, Turkey, when it exploded.

The cause of the explosion was due to trapped gas in the boiler room of the vessel when it was anchored 15 miles off the coast.

One dead, one injured

The rescued team were immediately dispatched to the scene of the explosion and air ambulance was dispatched but was unable to rescue a crew member due to strong winds and he, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries.

While another injured crew member was rescued by a maritime police boat and has been referred to a state hospital.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), firefighters, and police teams are still present on the shore conducting rescue work.
