On December 31, a fire reportedly broke out in the cargo hold of a cargo vessel caused due to spontaneous combustion.

What happened?

A fire broke out in the cargo ship ‘Amber’ which was docked at the Seville port in Esclusa terminal. The fire is reported to have originated in the cargo hold of the vessel due to spontaneous combustion.

The port officials and fire fighter from the city council of Seville rushed to the scene of the fire and were successful in extinguishing it.

They further closed the compartment doors and flooded the vessel with carbon dioxide gas with the help of the ship’s own fire suppression system.

Cargo retrieved:

After the fire had been brought under control, cranes were employed to extract the damaged cargo and they were laid out on the quay for further cooling. The vessel was loaded with 5.500 tons of beet and a fermenting process was thought to have been the cause of the spontaneous combustion, only affecting a small part of the cargo.
