UKSA is enhancing training for its maritime students with the addition of a new state-of-the-art TRANSAS simulator suite, allowing students to perform training exercises in various parts of the world across a range of vessel types, says an article published on Cypruss news website.
Revolutionizing Training For Future Officers And Masters
UKSA, a leading maritime training institution, has taken a significant step in enhancing the education of its students by introducing a state-of-the-art TRANSAS simulator suite. This cutting-edge technology provides students with the opportunity to engage in training exercises worldwide, navigating various vessel types, all from the safety of a shoreside training unit.
Operational for a month at UKSA’s Cowes headquarters, the TRANSAS simulator employs sophisticated software to simulate real-life scenarios, preparing future officers and masters for potentially dangerous situations while on the bridge of a superyacht or commercial vessel.
Tailored Training Programs
The industry-leading package used in the simulator is tailored to the specific requirements of UKSA’s training programs, particularly those undertaken by students pursuing Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) courses.
Students aiming for certificates of competency for Officer of the Watch (Yachts <3000GT) and Master (Yachts <500gt/3000gt) can utilize the simulator for navigation courses and Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) courses.
Positive Feedback And Advanced Features
Chris Frisby, Director of Training and Operations at UKSA, expressed excitement about offering students the latest technology with the TRANSAS suite, noting positive feedback from students who find the new system impressive.
The simulator features ten training stations, including a full mission bridge, allowing instructors and lecturers to conduct flexible, interesting, and meaningful training exercises.
Ross Kennedy, Senior MCA Instructor at UKSA, highlighted the simulator’s ability to teach key areas of navigation, instruments, bridge procedures, and bridge resource management, combined with the human element, to a high standard.
UKSA collaborated with Wartsila to develop a tailored package for the simulator, considering various global locations, vessel types, and navigation instruments.
Comprehensive Learning Experience
Students enrolled in accredited MCA courses, such as OOW Navigation and Radar, Master Navigation, and Radar and ECDIS, have access to the TRANSAS suite.
As part of UKSA’s all-inclusive program, students benefit from premium accommodation options and full board on campus, allowing them to focus on their studies without worrying about meals.
The dedicated MCA training center offers students access to highly skilled instructors from the Royal Navy, Merchant Navy, and Superyacht sectors.
The evenings and weekends provide additional time for students to access specialized classrooms, facilities, and resources, contributing to a comprehensive and enriching learning experience.
