Underwater Expertise: Hydrex Successfully Removes Bow Thruster In Algeciras

39

Hydrex divers successfully removed the bow thruster of a 150-meter roro ship while it was in port at Algeciras. This underwater operation saved the ship owner significant time and money by avoiding the need to drydock the vessel for thruster overhaul, reports Hydrex.

Thorough Inspection

The salvage operation began with a thorough inspection of the bow thruster and its surrounding area by divers. Preparations were simultaneously made within the engine room to prevent water ingress once the thruster was removed.

The divers first removed the external thruster tunnel grids to gain access. Subsequently, welding work was carried out within the tunnel.

The team then secured the gearbox with hoisting equipment and proceeded to disconnect the thruster from the engine room. Finally, the thruster unit was successfully removed from the tunnel for subsequent overhaul and reinstallation.
