A lighter ship loaded with some 600 tons of coal sank in Mongla port, Bangladesh, after she collided with, a bulk carrier, in the evening Nov 15, reports Maritime Bulletin.

What happened?

Three out of six crew of lighter ship went missing. Lighter ship completed coal loading from berthed German freighter and was under way, while bulk carrier was also under way, maneuvering to leave the port.

It was said, that lighter ship simply didn’t notice moving bulk carrier, and moved right to her bow.

The bulk carrier left Mongla shortly after accident, sailed downstream and anchored in Bay of Bengal off Kunga river mouth.

As of morning Nov 16, she was in the same area either anchored or already under way, status “For Order”, probably waiting for investigation results.
