According to Martin Christian Wold’s post on LinkedIn, in the latest update on alternativefuels orders, the AFI database witnessed a notable surge in alternative-fuelled vessel orgers activity during the month of February. Specifically, the platform recorded the addition of:

  • 17 ships fueled by liquefied natural gas (LNG)
  • 10 powered by methanol
  • 1 utilizing ammonia

According to Wold, this brings the total number of LNG-fueled ships delivered in the current year to 40, marking a significant milestone as the overall count surpasses the 500 ships in operation mark.

Among the commendable developments, the confirmation of the order for the ammonia-fueled container vessel, Yara Eyde, stands out. The vessel is a 1.400 TEU ice-class container ship to be built at Qingdao Yangfan Shipbuilding. Expected to be delivered by mid-2026, the Yara Eyde is set to become the world’s first ammonia-powered container vessel. It will run on clean ammonia, serving routes between Norway and Germany.

As Martin Christian Wold notes, Yara International continues to play a pivotal role in advancing maritime technology, exemplifying their commitment to spearheading progress in the industry.
