Greek Vessel Runs Aground in Strait

On July 18, a vessel flagged under Greece reportedly ran aground in the Dardanelles Strait located in Turkey.

What happened?

Authorities from Turkish Straits Vessel Traffic Service confirmed that the Greek-flagged vessel ‘Kriti Sea’ reportedly ran aground in Turkey’s Dardanelles Strait.

The reason for the ship running aground remains unknown as of now. The authorities are trying to ascertain how the ship ran aground.

Captain refuses help:

The ship which was seen dragging along the coast was offered assistance by the Turkish authorities. The offer for help was refused by the Captain of the ship who conveyed that they would get the ship back on its course and the situation was under control.

The ship was enroute from from Malta and was bound for Georgia’s port city of Batumi.

Fortunately, no one was injured or pollution to the environment was reported when the incident occurred.
