Steam Pipe Bust Severely Injured Crew Member

On August 1, a steam pipe burst onboard a ship resulted in a crew member being severely injured.

What happened?

The vessel ‘Mercosul Manaus’ was docked at the entrance Santos port for maintenance operations when the incident occurred.

Crew member injured:

When the maintenance work was carried out by crew member the steam pipe allegedly busted severely injuring him. The 64 year old crew member suffered over 70% burns on his body.

Medevaced to hospital:

The injured crew member was rushed to the hospital and is undergoing intensive treatment for his burns.

Investigation underway:

The port officials are investigating the cause of steam pipe explosion. The ship was inspected on August 2 after having berthed in port at 10.45 a.m.
