Boosting Port Operations

P&O Maritime Logistics, a leading maritime services provider, has recently clinched an exclusive towage contract with DP World in the Dominican Republic, poised to bring about a significant expansion to the Port of Caucedo. This contract, set to commence on 7 December, will herald the deployment of three state-of-the-art tugs, paving the way for increased vessel volume and size capabilities.

Cutting-Edge Capabilities

Under the terms of this agreement, P&O Maritime Logistics will introduce three tugs, including two brand-new builds, each equipped with advanced capabilities. These tugs will not only support the operational demands of the Port of Caucedo but will also enhance its ability to accommodate larger vessels, fostering higher frequency operations. The tugs will also boast additional features, such as Oil Spill Response and Firefighting capabilities, bolstering the port’s preparedness for unforeseen contingencies.

Strategic Alignment

This new contract stands as a testament to P&O Maritime Logistics’ strategic growth plan in the Americas. The Port of Caucedo, strategically located near the capital city of Santo Domingo, holds immense significance as a vital link between the Americas and the Caribbean. DP World’s considerable investments in the port, including a substantial $114 million expansion of the main berth and over $700 million for the development of its logistics ecosystem, underscore its commitment to fortifying the region’s logistics landscape.

Positive Impact

Martin Helweg, CEO of P&O Maritime Logistics, expressed his enthusiasm for the new venture, highlighting its potential impact on the local economy. By facilitating increased vessel traffic and cargo handling capabilities at the Port of Caucedo, P&O Maritime Logistics aims to make a valuable contribution to the Dominican Republic’s economic landscape.

Morten Johansen, CEO DP World Dominicana and COO DP World Americas Region, echoed this sentiment, lauding P&O Maritime Logistics’ proven track record of safe and sustainable operations.
