On October 20, a Korean vessel MV Dong Bang Giant was hijacked by at least 10 armed men on a speedboat near Bongao town in Tawi-Tawi, the Armed Forces Western Mindanao Command said Friday.

On May 9, Maersk lines Safmarine Meru reportedly collided with a German ship, Northern Jasper and caught fire off Ningbo, south of Shanghai. Crews from both the ships were evacuated to safety after the incident.
